Third Sector Community Climate Action Plan for Uist
UCVO was supported by Community Energy Scotland between October 2024 and March 2025 through the Carbon Neutral Islands (CNI) Project to carry out a programme of community engagement to gather ideas and input for a Third Sector Community Climate Action Plan (CCAP) for Uist.

The engagement sessions were well attended and included both drop-in sessions and group events with a focus on creative activities. Local residents and community groups participated in activities such as crafts using excess books from the Thrift Shop, while having informal climate conversations. People shared their climate concerns and ideas, and this fed into the CCAP, which includes a series of climate actions that the community and third sector can take forward.
Through Community Energy Scotland, we are part of a Community of Practice with five other Scottish island communities, who will support each other through the next phase of the project.
We want to ensure that the momentum and interest that has been created continues, and are applying for funding to bring some of the ideas to fruition.
