Berneray Community Council engages with policy and decision makers in Local Government and Health and Social Care Services and other agencies to help achieve solutions to local issues. An effective working relationship has been forged with local councillors who take forward concerns raised by the community and work with us to achieve positive outcomes.

Berneray Community Hall
Berneray Community Hall is used to hold a variety of events, including dances, music evenings, meetings, talks and presentations. It is also used for visiting shop sales, elections and sales of work. The Hall hosts Berneray Week, the Berneray Christmas dinner, sports events and wedding receptions.

Berneray Evergreens
Berneray Evergreens provide social activities for older people in the community such as outings to other islands and delivering takeaway meals that promotes inclusion in the life of the community. This has a significant impact on mental health by reducing isolation and loneliness.

Caraidean Uibhist provide a befriending service on a one-to-one basis and group basis to reduce social isolation and loneliness.

Carer Support
As part of the Western Isles Community Care Forum, Carer Support provides services directly to carers and users that include provision of funding for respite, free ice grips and the Carers’ Trainers’ Project.

Carinish and District Village Hall
Carinish and District Village Hall is run by a small committee for the benefit of the local population. Wind turbines contribute to costs. Private hires and occasional dances/weddings and fundraising events form the bulk of the programme.

Ceolas Uibhist
Summer School. Symposium, Gaelic development (employing a Gaelic Officer). Increase traditional song and dance activity. Working towards new Cnoc Soilleir Centre in partnership with Lews Castle College & UHI, developing international links and audiences and moving towards sustainability in aspects of provision.

Clachan Sands Community Hub has acquired the local telephone box that provides a local information point and a community exchange scheme.

Cnoc Soilleir is a Joint Venture Partnership between Ceolas Uibhist and Lews Castle College/UHI. The organisation facilitates and manages the Cnoc Soilleir building and is in preparation for Phase 2 of the Cnoc Soilleir project.

Co-chomunn Eirisgeidh’s is a community-owned business that enjoys local commitment and support and has continually improved their services to the community. Services include shop, banking/cashback, community noticeboard, tourist information and post-office.

Comann Eachdraidh Bhearnaraigh
Comann Eachdraidh Bhearnaraigh’s role is to promote an interest in the history and culture of the people of Berneray, and especially its Gaelic language.

Comann Eachdraidh Eirisgeidh
Comann Eachdraidh Eirisgeidh collects and displays the history of Eriskay. Major fundraising is currently taking place to convert the former Eriskay school into a Community Hub.

Kildonan Museum holds 10,000 items related to the social, domestic and cultural history of South Uist. The collection’s timeline is vast, including ancient archaeological finds and items related to townships, crofting and agriculture.

Comann na Mara encourages children, young people and adults to be aware of and protect the natural landscape and coastline and performs an educational remit in promoting water safety.

Community Energy Scotland
Community Energy Scotland is a membership organisation that represents members and community organisations at policy level and helps keep community energy in the forefront with relevant organisations such as the Scottish Government, OFGEM, SSE, Scottish Power and National Grid.

Comunn Eachdraidh Uibhist a Tuath
Comann Eachdraidh Uibhist a Tuath has built up a collection of objects, photographs and sound archives that reflect the social history of North Uist. The group plans heritage related exhibitions and events at Taigh Chearsabhagh including the annual main exhibition in the Museum and other events.

Comunn Piobaireachd Uibhist agus Bharraigh
Comann Piobaireachd Uibhist agus Bharraigh runs The Highlands and Islands Young Piper of the Year Competition and works in conjunction with Storas Uibhist who provide funding for piping tuition to teach piping to promising young pipers.

Cothrom
Cothrom delivers Adult Education, Training and Employability and Well-being. Services to unemployed and underemployed, adults with learning difficulties, substance misuse, lone parents and those at a disadvantage due to rurality and geographic location. We identify and remove barriers and progress learners’ lives. Nursery provision is an integral aspect of Cothrom’s services.

Management and maintenance of the garden, promote involvement and a positive community spirit within Druim Na H-airde and Baile Na Cille.
